At least this is what the manufacturer's representatives say. DMS-700, this is not an upgrade of previous versions of network audio players of this brand, but equipment with a completely new circuitry based on unique components.
The heart of the player is the new-generation AK4499EQ DAC from Asahi Kasei, featuring R2R matrix architecture. It comes complete with a circuit that allows you to increase resolution at low signal levels, implemented in an FPGA matrix. This solution provided a realistic analog sound with high detail.
The player has a hybrid layout where the DAC and analogue circuits are almost equal in volume. The third place is occupied by a unique power supply providing seven independent circuits.
Network capabilities have been implemented through Spotify Connect, and Roon Ready support is promised in the near future. Slots for USB/SD cards with an interesting NAS Drive function are available. Coaxial and optical inputs with support for DSD, PCM (384 kHz or more) are also not forgotten. It should be noted that it is possible to switch between inputs instantly without stopping playback.
The design of the DMS-700 is quite modern and its front panel is decorated with an incredibly large colour digital display with a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels.
The new product from Cary Audio clearly deserves attention in terms of technical features. But whether the DMS-700 will succeed in becoming the best network audio player on the planet will show the future. And the nearest one, as a pre-order option is already available.
